The Results Are In!

The big tent is down.  The clowns have moved on.  But great memories of the 8th Annual LBGC PMS (Positively Male Shutout) Chairty Golf Outing ring out loud and clear!  It was another fantastic year and the local chapter of the Ansar Shriners have really put on a jolly face --  we raised $30,000 for the Shriners Hospitals for Children!  Two full flights of women golfers (144 total) reached into their golf bags for more than tees and balls and supported the cause by participating in everything from  “One Buck Duck” to a shopping spree.  Their performance under the big top combined with the generosity of our many local sponsors and donors added up to one of the greatest shows on earth – well, at least one of the greatest on Long Bridge Golf Course!

Of course, none of it happens without the cheerful assistance of so many volunteers!  Thanks to the all the guys who volunteer to fetch and carry and make our day so wonderful!  Thanks also to the lemonade makers and shakers – without you, nine holes is way too long!  And to the other friends of LBGC founder Merle K. Buerkett (and ours too), what can we say?  Thanks for still being there for us – to take our names (and our money!), keep us in line, and charm us while serving up yummy gulf shrimp.  Space is too short to list our great guys by name but you know who you are and so do we – and we thank you, thank you, thank you!

With the continued support of our magnanimous sponsors and donors, our volunteers and all you lovely ladies, we look forward to continued success and to supporting another great local charity!  Thanks again!

Michelle Buerkett, Deb Miller, Jodie Galloway and Lorilea Buerkett

Our Story.....

Long Bridge Golf Course is conveniently close to Springfield, just north of the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.  Designed and built by Merle Buerkett, the course overlooks the Sangamon River Valley, and in its natural setting makes you feel as though you have alltogether left the city.  Long Bridge has a mission to maintain an outstanding golf experience for players of all calibers and has been providing challenging scenic golf since 1998.

In the fall of 2004, under the supervision of Doug Falk and Merle Buerkett, construction of the driving range and redesign of number 1 tee and fairway began.  Since opening in June 2005, under supervision of Arden Lear, these improvements have grown in and nicely complement the high standards of maintenance that Arden and his crew strive for throughout the course.

Convenience to the customer is key to this practice facility.  The range and ball dispenser areimmediately adjacent to the concrete parking area, and only 30 feet from the practice range tee.  The range tee box is approximately 60 feet deep by 200 feet wide and is opened year round, weather permitting.  Prepaid E-key or token purchases allow golfers to pay in advance, grab their clubs, fill a bucket of balls and start practicing within minutes of arrival…what a great way to spend your lunch hour.

The fairways and tee boxes are bluegrass, the greens are bent grass, and the roughs a mixture of bluegrass fescue.  These all together make up generous and playable areas surrounded by natural tall grasses.  The design allows the course to blend into the beauty of the two six acre ponds and the surrounding timber.  The natural areas and trees are home to a multitude of birds and other wildlife.

The greens at Long Bridge are medium generous in size and roll true.  Planning locations for approach shots to the greens will challenge the golfers’ mental game as well as their ability to execute good golf shots.  Once on the green, you better look twice to line up a perfect lag or one putt (due to the undulation and typical speed of the greens).

The course requires you to bring all your clubs.  This 3000 yd course has 2 par 3 holes, 5 par 4 holes, and 2 par 5 holes.  Our website has a multitude of pictures which will speak louder than words.  If accuracy and putting are your game then Long Bridge Golf Course is a perfect fit for you.

LBGC clubhouse has an outstanding 19th hole bar and grill with outdoor deck seating and banquet facility.  LBGC offers in-house catering for outings, banquets, and private parties.  Michelle Buerkett, manager and co-owner, and her staff provide a friendly, clean, and comfortable environment, which welcomes golfers and non-golfers alike.  We are also the closest full beverage service to the departing travelers at the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.

So whether you’re a golfer or someone who enjoys a cold drink and a good meal, with a scenic view, then LBGC is the place for you.
